Spotlight: ABQ Artwalk

Albuquerque’s art walk events are more than just a fun monthly get-together. Did you know ABQ Artwalk is in fact an organized effort to promote Albuquerque artists and businesses and enhance community engagement? A program of the state-recognized DowntownABQ MainStreet and Arts & Cultural District, ABQ Artwalk helps bring people of all ages, abilities, and artistic interests together to help creativity and free expression thrive. Currently focused within the Albuquerque downtown area, ABQ Artwalk connects galleries, artist studios, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, music venues, museums, and other businesses typically on the first Friday of every month. Sample free food, discover great art, explore new shops, hear live music, check out workshops, make new friends while reconnecting with old ones—then do it again the following month! Wish to get involved? Apply on the website, where you can also learn about ABQ Artwalk’s monthly featured artist.

This year’s themes are nature, farming, and food. General admission is $5 and children under the age of 12 are free.

La Llorona Lives On
Centered around a young immigrant girl trying to assimilate into a new culture, the play Killer Lloronas and Other Miscontrued Stories will be at the South Broadway Cultural Center November 5 and 6 starting at 7:00 PM. Narrators take on the role of several different mythological women, adding their own insight into the girl’s journey. Albuquerque Poet Laureate Emeritus Jessica Helen Lopez (who is also an award-winning slam poet) will kick things off at 6:30 PM with a poetry reading; tickets are $23.
